In 2011, the Forum of Private Business launched Get Britain Trading and put the campaign at the centre of our political lobbying activities. We are proud to have contributed to some notable successes. These include:
Closure of an illegal tax loophole – Thanks to our lobbying this tax loophole affecting small retailers will be closed in April 2012. Read more >
A new banking appeals process – This has now been set up and currently 40% of businesses who have been rejected by their bank are having their appeals upheld. Read more on the Better Business Finance website >
Making small steps towards Getting Britain Trading – Other major lobbying successes include improvements in cash flow, a fairer tribunals system and a more transparent public procurement processes.
Buddying businesses up with MPs – During the summer of 2011 around 100 MPs visited small businesses in their constituencies and undertook work experience to improve their understanding of small firms. Read more about the Business Buddy scheme >
Welsh firm employing 138 saved from closure – We called on our high profile contacts when a business in Wales was under threat of closure by HM Revenue & Customs and succeeded in saving the firm.
Helping entrepreneurs to support fledgling businesses – We are one of the founding organisations of the Get Mentoring scheme, enabling businesses to help each other to get trading.
