Business lobby group appoints new National Chairman

The FPB has appointed Noel Guilford as its new National Chairman. Noel, who has been a non-executive board member of the FPB since 2003, is the managing partner of Chester-based Guilford Consulting, and has more than 30 years' experience as a chartered accountant and management consultant. He has been acting Chairman since June 2008, but now takes on the role full time. more >>
   
VAT cut could prove costly for smaller retailers, says business lobby group

The Government's 2.5% reduction in VAT has come under fire from smaller retailers, who believe that the cost of administering the change will vastly overshadow the benefits of the reduction. The FPB is warning that the tax cut – designed to boost high street trade – could backfire because it is unlikely to convince many retailers to slash their prices. more >>
