The success of a business depends on the health and well-being of its employees.

Sickness absence is one of the most serious obstacles to productivity, profitability and competitiveness. The issue has been recognised by the Government, resulting in the Health, Work and Well-Being strategy, launched in October 2005.

In response to the strategy, the FPB conducted a survey of businesses in April 2006 to identify the main issues and costs of sickness absence in the workplace. The survey also aimed to identify how smaller businesses are managing sickness absence.
