Inability to carry on normal job

Once the employee has informed her employer that she is pregnant, the employer has a duty to carry out a risk assessment specific to the pregnant employee. If the pregnant employee cannot carry out her existing work for reasons identified during this assessment, she must be offered alternative work. If she cannot do any alternative work or none is available, she must be suspended from employment on full pay at her normal rate for as long as the suspension continues.

The exception to the above is if she has unreasonably refused an offer of suitable alternative work. Refer to the FPB's Employment Guide for more on this.
