Airliner given watery grave at diving schoolA diving school enjoyed a recent spell of TV stardom when it sank a huge aeroplane in a flooded quarry.
Forum member Capernwray Diving and Leisure Ltd carried out the stunt to provide divers with one of the biggest underwater objects to explore anywhere in the UK.
The aircraft – a Hawker Siddeley 748 – boasts a wingspan almost 100 feet long and cost Capernwray tens of thousands of pounds to buy, prepare and transport to its site near Carnforth in Lancashire.
Thanks to some help from the Forum's PR team, TV cameras were there to capture the moment when the airliner was lowered into the water using a giant crane.
Capernwray's story was covered by BBC North West Tonight and ITV's Granada Reports (on Monday 29 March), along with numerous regional radio stations and newspapers.
Granada's video report of the operation to sink the aircraft can be viewed here. Or watch the sinking of the airliner in the video below.
The Forum has previously helped Capernwray secure numerous other media appearances, including this article in the Sunday Times.
