Get Britain Trading

A campaign for small businesses

In February 2011 we launched our campaign to Get Britain Trading. The campaign is about raising awareness of the massive contribution small firms make to the economy. Few people realise the value of this contribution, but with small businesses employing almost half of the UK workforce and contributing over a third of turnover, we want the Government to sit up and listen.

Making it easier for small firms to do business

The objective of Get Britain Trading is to make it easier and more profitable for small firms to do business on a local, national and international basis. We developed Get Britain Trading in response to members' needs in the current economic climate and are lobbying for a list of measures to help small businesses which will, in turn, give the economy a much needed boost. The Get Britain Trading manifesto sets out the conditions needed to get small businesses trading again. We are calling for a range of measures, which come under the following topics:
  • Improving cash flow
  • Simple and proportionate tax
  • Creating employment and improving skills
  • Creating opportunities for growth.

We need your help!

We need as many businesses as possible to support Get Britain Trading. Both members and non-member businesses can pledge their support for the campaign and in doing so add their voices to a growing network of small firms. We also need your help to promote the campaign. The more people you tell, the more support we will achieve and the more the Government will have to listen to the needs of small businesses.

What's in it for you?

There are various reasons to support the campaign:
  • You'll be helping us to lobby the Government for a brighter future for small businesses in Britain

  • You may be able to think of ways to promote the fact that you are supporting other small businesses which could achieve good PR for your business. If you've got a good news story to tell us about your business, you could end up as one of our case studies.
  • You can ‘meet' other businesses online via the LinkedIn group and shares tips and advice.
