The FPB is campaigning for an improved public transport infrastructure to reduce congestion on the roads, cut carbon emissions and encourage the growth of smaller businesses. We believe that, only when there are viable alternatives to our overloaded roads will the weight of traffic using our busiest routes be reduced.
Congestion charging and road pricing schemes will only become another tax on businesses and their employees because drivers have no option but to travel on the roads at the busiest times. Users will have to absorb the cost of such schemes or pass them on to customers or employers.
Improved public transport would also be of benefit by increasing the travel options of employees and employers alike, bringing trade to businesses connected by any such infrastructure and creating employment and investment in local economies.
